MetroRehab Hospital held a luncheon for Stroke Survivors on Thursday 11th September to promote National Stroke Week 2014.
Stroke survivors that had completed their rehabilitation programs at MetroRehab joined with current inpatients to raise awareness of stroke in the community and share their experiences. The newly appointed Stroke and Neuro Rehabilitation Services Coordinator Anna Barlow, expressed MetroRehab Hospital’s commitment to becoming a leader in stroke rehabilitation. Anna acknowledged the individual challenges that patients have to overcome on their stroke journey and thanked both families and carers for their contributions.
Information was provided on support services available in the community and education around stroke risk factor modification. The luncheon concluded with the cutting of the ‘Challenge Stroke 2014’ cake by Jim Allen, an inspirational stroke survivor who completed his rehabilitation at MetroRehab. Staff wore tartan ribbons to signify the complexity of Stroke and money was raised for the Stroke Recovery Association NSW.
